Über die Publikation
Ferdinand Spindel (1913–1980), an artist known for his foam sculptures, lived in the Halfmannshof artists' colony in Gelsenkirchen from 1963 to 1973. During this decade, he put the Halfmannshof, and thus Gelsenkirchen, at the center of European avant-garde art. He was the driving force behind spectacular contemporary exhibitions, the source of ideas for innovative initiatives, and an artist who creatively incorporated the influences of the time into his work. The catalogue was published (in German only) on the occasion of the artist's 80th birthday to accompany the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen (September 16–November 14, 1993).
