At the start of 2026, Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen will be focusing on Gelsenkirchen's vibrant art scene. The exhibition will present current works by artists who were born in Gelsenkirchen, live and work here, or who have shaped the city as an important location for their artistic work.
The works show a wide variety of media, including painting, photography, cyanotype, collage, ceramics, sound, installation, and sculpture, as well as graphic and textile works. The range of positions on display reflects the different artistic approaches, themes, and techniques that characterize Gelsenkirchen.
With this exhibition, Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen once again highlights the creative potential of the city. It shows how rich and dynamic the Gelsenkirchen art scene is and what artistic energy it possesses.
A fresh look at the local scene reveals new aspects of familiar artistic positions, but also numerous new discoveries that contribute to the city's vibrant art scene. From up-and-coming talents to a position that is honored 'in memoriam', the Open House exhibition unfolds a broad spectrum and offers multifaceted insights into the Gelsenkirchen scene.
The new title Open House not only illustrates the fresh perspective on contemporary art in the city, but also reflects the exhibition situation with open intermediate levels and lines of sight in the space. Finally, it picks up on the profile of Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen: a place of encounter, diversity, and creativity.
