Über die Ausstellung

More than 3.000 hand drawings, prints, and numerous portfolios—especially by artists of the 20th-century avant-garde—tell the story of the rich and diverse world of graphic arts in the collection of Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen. These works can be explored in temporary exhibitions in the newly established Works on Paper Cabinet – our Blue Room. Currently, selected works by Marc Chagall (1887–1985), published by the renowned Edition Maeght in the 1950s, transport viewers to the magical worlds of the circus and the city of Paris. Fantastic, dream-like motifs define Chagall's pictorial language. Floating figures, animals, and symbolic elements evoke memories, religious and mythical themes, and folkloric influences.
